Just got back from Costco. Had to re-up my supplies, let’s see how long it lasts me =)

 Just want to give a shout out to my cousin David on my blog. He just left Japan today; he was out here teaching English, exploring his culture, and just living it up. Glad to see that he had fun out here and enjoyed his first trip to Japan.

 Oh yea he just had his 19^th birthday yesterday so Happy Birthday cuz, tell everyone back home I said wassup! 1ove, D-DMAK

 いとこのDavidにここからひとこと言いたくて…彼は今日、日本を飛び立った。日本で英語の先生をしたり、文化に触れたり、とにかくエンジョイしてたよ。初日本を満喫してくれて良かった。

 それから、昨日、誕生日を迎えて19歳になった。お誕生日おめでとう！LAに戻ったらみんなによろしくな！1ove, D-MAK

I was able to go watch the first game that Manny Ramirez played as a Los Angeles Dodger. The stadium hasn’t been that packed in a long time and he gave Dodger fans something to be hopeful about. He went 2-4 in his first game and hit his first homerun in his second game the next day. My boy Matt Hidaka hooked up the tickets, he gonna be mad at me if I didn’t thank him on my blog lol. Anyway he is a real good friend of mine who is working his way up in Major League Baseball. A few of his clients include Saito, Fukudome, and Kuroda just to name a few.

I also got to meet Saito, the dodger’s pitcher from Japan, he is injured right now but I hope he can get better ASAP. I remember seeing an article in the LA times a few years back and I still have it to this day. It was really inspiring so it was a pleasure to meet him. Like me he left his home country with no guarantees to follow a dream in a foreign land. Every time he goes out to pitch he says to himself,”Takashi Saito, what did you come here to do?” he said he will retire when he cannot FEEL the answer anymore. Wow

LAドジャーズの一員としてはじめて活躍するManny Ramirezを観戦しに行った。こんな満員なスタジアムも久々で、ドジャーズファンにとっては希望の星だった。はじめの試合は2-4で、二日目の試合で初ホームランを打った。友達のMatt Hidakaがチケットをとってくれた。俺のブログにヤツに「ありがとう」って載せないと怒られるから一応言っておくよ！（笑）とにかく、Mattは俺の仲のいいヤツで、今、メジャー・リーグ・ベースボールと関わって仕事をしている。クライアントには斎藤、福留、黒田など含む。

それから、ドジャーズのピッチャー、斎藤選手にも会う機会があった。今彼は怪我をしているが一刻も早く治って欲しいと願っている。何年か前に彼の記事がLAタイムズに記載されていたのを今でも覚えてるよ。当時、その記事を読んで感激したから会えたことが本当に嬉しかった。俺と同じように、彼も夢を追い、なんの保障もなく母国を離れ、異国の町へ行った。彼は、投球するたび自分に問いかけるんだ、「斎藤 隆、お前は何をしにここきた？」
「その答えが感じられなくなったときに俺は引退する」彼はそう言った。WOW

This summer I got to work out with my good buddy Abel. I played college basketball with him and now he is training players and playing pro in Mexico. He works for Abunassar Impact Basketball and has been taking me through drills that all the NBA players do.

Our workouts consist of a lot of explosive and core work. It is pretty tough but I can feel the results already, I feel a lot quicker and powerful than I have in a long time. Also been doing a lot of basketball drills with him and my friend Luis, he used to coach me in Hong Kong but now will coach in Mexico. We use this thing called the gun and I just get a million shots up, so many my arm starts to get sore. I wish we had one for Tokyo Apache, anyway check out the site and the alumni

この夏、友人のAbelとトレーニングに励んでた。彼とは大学の時一緒にプレイしてて、今は選手のトレーニング、そしてメキシコでプロとして活躍してるんだ。彼はAbunassar Impact Basketballというとこで働いてる。NBA選手と同じドリルを彼と行っている。

俺たちのトレーニングは瞬発力とコアを含む。結構辛いものはあったけど、すでに結果を身体で感じてる。久しぶりにスピードとパワーがついた気がする。それから、バスケットドリルも彼と友人のLuisとたくさん行っている。LuisはHong Kongにいた時のコーチで今はメキシコでコーチしてる。Gunという機械を使ってショットの練習をするんだ。腕に痛みを感じるほどできる。アパッチにもあればいいのに。時間あったらHPをチェックしてみてくれ。

It’s about 3:30 a.m and I just got back from the gym. I’ve been having trouble sleeping early so lately my neighbor, my cousin, and I have been hitting the gym in the middle of the night. We go to 24-hour fitness that never closes, I wish they had this in Japan. I like it here cuz I get to work out and shoot around after on the full size courts. You would think its empty this late but there are a lot of people working out and playing ball. It was like 2:30 am and there were more than 30 dudes out on the courts, I just shot around on the side court but I kinda wanted to play.

Well all summer I was lifting really heavy and I was up to 170 pounds, don’t think i’ve ever been that heavy in my life. I was just trying to get stronger but my trainer told me that I gotta get down to like 155-160 pounds. He watched some BJL games and said that my game has to be more speed than strength. So I’m trying to cut that weight down and get more ripped than big.

I think I have the natural strength to compete with the other guards in the BJL so lately we have been working on muscle endurance more than muscle strength. I think the players are pretty strong though lol. Well I feel a little more quicker than before and I still feel like I have the explosive power, hopefully it can all come together in time for the season. 1ove,D-MAK

ただ今の時間、夜中の3時半。今、ジムから帰ってきた。最近ちゃんとした時間に寝れなくて、お隣さんといとこと一緒に夜中にジムに行ってるんだ。一日中開いてる、24-hour fitnessと言うジムに通ってるんだ。日本にもあればいいのに。ここでは、ウェイトトレーニングを終えた後、フルサイズコートでシューティングもできるからいいんだよな。こんな時間でも結構人がいて、トレーニングとかバスケットボールとかをしてる人たちも。2時半過ぎてんのにコートには30人以上もいる。結局サイドコートでシュート練だけしてたんだけど、本当はプレイもしたかったんだよなぁ。

夏はとにかく、ずっとウェイトトレーニングに励んでて、170ポンドまでになったよ。人生初。この重さ。とにかく強くなりたくてトレーニングしてたんだけど、155－160ぐらいに抑えろってトレーナーに言われたよ。BJLの試合を観て、俺には力よりもスピードが必要だと指摘された。だから今は体重を落として身体を引き締めてる最中だ。

パワーで言えば、BJLの他のガードに比べても引けを取らないと思うから、今は筋肉に”力”をつけるよりも”持久力”を重視してトレーニングしてるよ。みんなでも結構強いな…（笑）以前よりもクイックネス（瞬発力）がついてきたような気がするし、爆発的なパワーも兼ね備えてると思ってる。今シーズンはその二つがバランスよく出せればいいと思ってる。1ove, D-MAK

So the Las Vegas tryout for the BJL came and went. I don’t know if you are familiar with tryouts but I wasn’t too keen on going. Guys are just gunning for themselves trying to impress, which is understandable, but that’s one of the main reasons I didn’t want to go. But since I went I thought, “hey why not try to get some good runs in?” I wanted to play against some of the guards that were trying out just to get a feel for their talent but as I dreaded, I was matched up with the other Japanese players. I play against these guys all season long; I came all the way to Vegas to play against them again?? lol

So anyway out of all the players trying out I saw about a handful of guys who could really make an impact in the BJL. Luckily my team was pretty good and we went undefeated. I didn’t get much playing time but I had a chance to watch some of the players trying out. Sung Ming Ming, the 7’9” cat was there and watching him was really entertaining! I didn’t get a chance to play against him but if I did I wanted to dribble through his legs once lol. He is pretty slow but he doesn’t need to jump when he dunks. Would you rather be a dwarf or a giant?

Well I enjoyed my time in Vegas, I got to see and talk to a lot of the coaches and staffs from other teams in a different light. You know during the season we are just competing against and trying to destroy each other but outside of basketball we are just normal people. I also got to meet Dr. J, one of my dunking idols. He was a real cool guy , and unlike Sung Ming Ming, he agreed to take a picture with me. 1ove,D-MAK

ラス・べガスでのトライアウトはあっという間に過ぎてった。みんなトライアウトというものがどんなもんだか想像できるか定かじゃないけど、個人的に俺はあまり気が乗ってなかったんだ。ただただ、リーグに入りたくて必死にハッスルする奴らがプレイしてる。もちろん分からなくもないが、それが、気が乗らない理由の一つでもあった。でも、どうせ行くならプレイはしたいなとも考えた。どんなプレイをするのか気になってガードたちとプレイしたかったんだけど、一番恐れてたことが起きた。日本人のプレイヤーに当たったのだ。シーズン中ずっといつもプレイしてるのに、べガスに来てまで…（笑)

たくさんのプレイヤーを見て、BJLにインパクトを与えられそうな人は一握りだった。運よく、俺のチームのプレイヤーはみんないいプレイヤーで一回も負けなかったよ。たくさんプレイはできなかったけど、トライアウトする人を見ることができた。263cmあるSung Ming Mingもいて、見ててかなり盛り上がったよ。彼とプレイする機会はなかったが、もしそんな機会があったら、足を通ってドリブルしたかったよ！！（笑）スピードはないけど、ジャンプしなくてもダンクできるんだ。小人か巨人、なるならどっち？？

最終的に、べガスでは楽しい時間を過ごすことができたよ。色んな方面からチームやコーチたちを見ることができた。シーズン中はつぶしあいと競争だけど、コートから一歩でるとみんな普通の奴らなんだ。それから、俺のダンクのアイドル、Dr. Jにも会った。本当にいい人だった。Sung Ming Mingとは違って一緒に写真を撮ってくれたよ。1ove, D-MAK

I was out to dinner Tuesday night with Jun Nakanishi for our friend Shinya’s birthday. We were just finishing up and about to head home when all of a sudden we see Kohei, Jun and J! Haha they were at Yoshinoya gettin some dinner, i totally did not expect to see them there and was so surprised! Out of all the places in the world, we all end up at the same spot,man this world is shrinking!

Anyway training has been good, i am working out like 2-3 times a day and it is really tiring but i have to get in better shape. Well i will see you all soon. 1ove, D-MAK

この間、火曜日、友達シンヤの誕生日でJun Nakanishiと一緒にご飯食べに行ってたんだ。で、そろそろ帰るかって言ってたとこに、KoheiとJun とJが入ってきたんだ。近くの吉野家で食べてたらしい。まさか、こんなとこで会うとは思わなかったよ！こんな広い世界でこんな偶然もあるもんなんだなぁ。世間は狭すぎだよ！

今、一日2,3回トレーニングしてるよ。くたくただけどがんばんないとな。

I will be returning to the Tokyo Apache for my fourth season and I am excited.  Last season was pretty good but I feel like we have unfinished business to take care of.  I don’t know who will be on the team next year cuz teams change all the time but I hope we can get a good group of guys who want to be on Apache and are hungry and ready to win .  That’s the only thing I wanna do is win a championship, all the other individual accolades doesn’t mean anything if you don’t win.

 I did declare for free agency this off season but my heart has always been with Tokyo Apache. I hated the way we lost and I wanted to come back and win it all.  Losing put a bad taste and a different kind of hunger in my mouth and I want to get back to the finals real bad. I am getting some great workouts here in LA and I can’t wait for the season to start! I wanna thank everyone for their emails and well wishes, the emails about not being a free agent and staying in Tokyo were really special to me and I thank you again! 1ove, D-MAK

4年目の東京アパッチに来シーズンも戻れることを楽しみにしている。2007－2008のシーズンは、そこそこの成績は残したけどまだやり残した感が残ってる。チームは常に変わってくものだから来シーズン誰がチームにいるかは定かではない。だけど、アパッチになりたい奴、優勝したい奴が来ることを願ってる。俺はただそれだけだ。チャンピオンシップになりたいだけ。個々の称賛だって勝たなきゃ意味がない。

 俺は、フリーエージェントを宣言したが心はいつも東京アパッチだった。去年の負け方は最悪だった。また戻って優勝したい。負けることで後味悪かったけど、その分ハングリーな気持ちがまた違う形で入ってきて早くファイナルに行きたいと思った。ここLAでは最高なトレーニングを行ってて、シーズン始まるのが待ち遠しいよ。メールや励ましの言葉をくれたみんな、ありがとう。フリーエージェントの話しや東京にいる話しなどのメールは俺にとって特別なものだった、ありがとう！1ove, D-MAK

Man it feels good to be home!! Flew in on Monday and just been settling in at the house.  Had some family over and we just bbq some steaks and i fell asleep real early. I was supposed to play ball with my old friends but i slept right through it lol. Trying my hardest to get my sleeping patterns right because i dont want to be jet lagged. Gonna go watch the Laker game then head to the gym…GO LAKERS! D-MAK

やっぱり家はいいな！！月曜日に着いて今は家でゆっくりしてるとこだ。親戚が家に来てみんなでステーキを食べて、俺と言えば、かなり早い時間に気付いたら寝てしまってた。昔からの友達とバスケするはずだったけどぜんぜん寝てた。あはは。時差ぼけを防ぐためにきちっとした時間に寝ないとな。今からレイカーズの試合を観てジムに向かうよ。。。レイカーズ頑張れよ！　D-MAK
